Brentford Dock Residents Mend Vandalised Picnic Table

Vandals wrecked and set fire to the table in the picnic area by Osterley Lock on the Grand Union Canal (by Boston Manor station). Instead of shrugging his shoulders and moving on, Brentford Dock resident Michael Cunnington offered to rebuild it. Local volunteers were delighted and agreed to pay for the materials. Michael then contacted the Commodore of Brentford Cruising Club (the boat club based in Brentford Dock) to seek the assistance of the Club, in particular with transporting the new bench up the canal by boat.

The bench was pre-fabricated in Brentford Dock Marina by residents Peter Dignam and Michael Cunnington and also by Clive Evans, the Commodore of Brentford Cruising Club. The bench was transported to the site, some last-minute adjustments made, and then bolted in place. The restored picnic table is now ready for use again.

Waterside Café-Bar Closed

Syon Park Temporary Gateway

Visitors to Syon Park last week were able to stroll through this temporary gateway outside the Great Conservatory. It's part of a set for a remake of the 1941 Lon Chaney classic horror film The Wolfman.

The inside of the conservatory was turned into a ballroom with orchestra stage. Shooting was done throughout the night under large banks of lights suspended from a crane. Although the wall looks convincing the 'stonework' is in fact made of fibreglass.

For more on the movie, see wikipedia: The Wolf Man (2009).
