River Brent Moorings

A community representative has failed in a High Court fight to block plans for visitor moorings on the River Brent adjacent to Ferry Quays.

The development which has now won the judge's backing will see leisure moorings which will take up 6m of the navigable waters, along 180 meters of the river with a further 22 meters set aside for visitor moorings.

The moorings are now advertised on thamesmooring.com.

Further information on the TW8 website. At this time we do not know when these moorings will be built!

Would You Like to Sing?

Brentford Dock Singers need some more voices to join a friendly, enthusiastic mixed group. We have fun, we laugh a lot but we do work hard. We give a concert on the Dock every summer and perform in the Christmas Carol Concert. The music is wide-ranging - light, classical and songs from the shows.

You don’t need experience, just a voice, energy and commitment. If you think you would like to sing with us drop in to a rehearsal in the Residents’ Clubroom (8pm on Monday evenings), or get in touch:

Frederick Cayley Robinson

Artist born in Brentford - exhibition at The National Gallery.

There is an opportunity to see an exhibition of one of Brentford’s famous artists, Frederick Cayley Robinson. He was born in Brentford in 1862 and his masterpiece ‘Acts of Mercy’, a series of four large paintings, are now being shown at The National Gallery. Here is a good slide show of them.

Details of the exhibition can be found on this National Gallery Page.

A strange sight...

I was having breakfast on Saturday morning at 6.15 a.m. and a narrowboat drifted past Julius Point up river, just like the Marie Celeste.

The river was nearly at high tide. There was no-one at the helm and no engine running. I couldn't see any sign of anybody on board. There was a closed umbrella and a can of lager on a mat at the helm, but no-one around.

Mysterious!

Maybe the boat was boarded by pirates operating from Lots Ait, who boarded and in the scuffle with the owner, he fell overboard and they scarpered?

I rang the Richmond lock keeper at 6.30 a.m. They sent out a boat to have a look and there was someone aboard but he was in the engine room for 1/2 hr trying to sort out a problem. So everything is alright now.
