It is 350 years ago since Samuel Pepys started his famous diary on 11 July 1660. See the BBC News article “Who was the man behind the diaries, Samuel Pepys?” which has a pointer to the diary online.
George Manville Fenn
Brentford author, George Manville Fenn was a writer of fiction for over fifty years. He wrote over 170 novels. He lived at Syon Lodge, London Road, just before Busch Corner.

The Rising of the Moon (1945), by Gladys Mitchell, but I can recommend it as an interesting read, especially for Brentfordians trying to identify the locations she describes in Brentford.

Proposals for Goat Wharf
Development Proposals for Goat Wharf, 42-50 Brentford High Street
Notting Hill Housing is bringing forward new proposals, which include approximately 90 high-quality apartments including affordable housing and family homes. Local Dialogue has been appointed by Notting Hill Housing to undertake pre-application public consultation within the local community. This will seek the views of local stakeholders and residents on Notting Hill Housing’s emerging proposals before a planning application is submitted to the London Borough of Hounslow later this year.
As part of the public consultation, a public drop-in session was held on Wednesday 30 June at the Waterman’s Arts Centre.
Brentford History Day
On Saturday afternoon, June 5, there was a Brentford History Day upstairs in the Library.
This was a large exhibition and with among many things lots of photographs from Brentford dating back more than a 100 years.
This is a yearly event, so if you missed it, look out for it next year!

Residents might recall that a film company spent a week filming at night in the Syon Park conservatory a couple of years ago for a film called The Wolfman. Those scenes never made it into the final version, but you can see what you're missing on YouTube, (PG).

New PLA Website for Recreational River Users
The PLA (Port of London Authority) has recently created a new recreational users website to provide leisure users with all the information they need to stay safe on the river.
Electricity Failure
On Monday Morning, May 23, about 9am the Catherine Wheel Road Electricity Sub Station caught fire and we had no electricity on Brentford Dock for about two hours between 9 and 11am.
Catherine Wheel Road and south parts of the High Street were powered by a generator until the sub station had been repaired, very quickly, by Thursday May 27.

We have made a spring clean and are right now in the process of moving as much information as possible from the old version. This will take some time and we hope you like what has been done so far.
We have received some lovely map illustrations from Brentford Dock Resident Katherine Baxter which we use in many places, ie. the About Page and on the Contact Pages.
