Goodbye to Michael Lyons’s sculptures

by Duncan Walker
    & Hans Styrnell

We say goodbye, on Monday 14th November, to the three sculptures by Michael Lyons that we have had on loan since 2004. They have contributed to the special character of Brentford Dock.

‘Mayflower 1’ and ‘Cavalcade’ have been selected for 'London Bridge City Sculpture Exhibition', Hays Galleria (Hays Wharf) London 2011/12.

‘Nimbus: Germain's Garland’, on the marina steps nearest Nero Court, will be returning to the sculptor’s studio in Yorkshire.

A great thank you to Michael Lyons for the privilege of having his much appreciated sculptures.

Mayflower 2' stolen

In September this year, Michael Lyons had three of his metal sculptures stolen from his garden in Yorkshire. One of them was 'Mayflower 2', a later version of the 'Mayflower ' that we had on loan.

This highlights a growing problem today of thefts of public sculptures by metal thieves. In 2009 a £3m Henry Moore bronze sculpture was stolen and sold off as scrap for £1,500. The Public Monuments & Sculpture Association (PMSA) have a register of stolen public sculptures.
